On this exciting outback expedition, you’ll explore this remote and rugged destination with us – independent but not alone. Rudall River/Karlamilyi is Australia’s second largest national park and one of the world’s few remaining “Last Frontiers”. If you love challenge and adventure and have a pioneering spirit, be among the fortunate few to join us as we venture into this little-known 4WD destination. You’ll also be able to visit Mt. Augustus - WA’s answer to Ayers Rock (Uluru) - as well as the scenic and pristine Kennedy Ranges!
The geography of the area is spinifex grass country bordered by the Great Sandy (NE) and Little Sandy (SW) Deserts, and includes the watershed of the Rudall River. There are several salt lakes in the area. Sand dunes cover much of the eastern and SW part of park. The central area is rocky. Main vegetation is around the water courses, this is eucalyptus savanna, tea tree scrub and some mulga (acacia).
Birds are the most common fauna, 90 species having been recorded. 37 native mammal species have been recorded including dingos, dunnarts, several species of marsupial mice and bats. Several reptile species also recorded including frogs, geckos, lizards, skinks, goannas and snakes.
The safari begins in Newman and ends in Carnarvon. Clients are responsible for making their own way to/from these destinations and should allow two days’ driving from Perth each way.

On this Global Gypsies adventure we’ll be providing all the catering which means no grocery shopping, meal planning, storage or cooking for you! Now that’s a real holiday! We’ll take our custom designed catering trailer and provide you with three wholesome and nutritious meals a day plus morning tea. All that we ask is that you help with the washing-up!
Use your own 4WD vehicle and camping gear, or we can hire them for you at special rates. Each vehicle should bring their own, or hire, a vehicle-mounted UHF two-way radio. In the escort vehicle we carry an EPIRB (electronic positioning radio indicating beacon), HF radio, GPS and satellite phone.
Be aware that water and supplies will be scarce or non-existent once inside the park boundaries – we must be completely self-sufficient. Robust 4WD vehicles and off-road camper trailers only. Sorry no pets or children under 16 permitted.
Finally, big thank you to Di Schudmak for providing the tour photos!
