Caravan Safari to Murchison House Station

We just completed our inaugural Outback Stations Safari & it was spectacular! We had planned to visit Murchison House Station (or MHS which is near Kalbarri) & Melangata & Wooleen Stations (which are near Yalgoo - well, sort of near!). Unfortunately we couldn't get to Wooleen as the access roads were closed by heavy rains & a rising Murchison River! So instead, we focused our energies on MHS & Melangata (see next story) & there was plenty to keep us busy at each place!

MHS is just a 15-minute drive from the coastal town of Kalbarri but you'd think you were in the middle of the outback! Lots of red earth & dark skies, quiet shady unpowered campsites perched on the banks of a healthy river (even did a spot of fishing!), 350,000 tranquil acres of paddocks (both grassland & coastal), herds of rangeland goats (the station's main business) & lots of history to enjoy (including once being owned by one of the richest men in India!).

Another bonus is the close access to impressive Kalbarri National Park with its dramatic cliffs & gorges, scenic skywalk, Aussie wildlife & seasonal wildflowers; plus access to the gorgeous coastline - we even took a sunset cruise so we could admire all the places we'd visited from a different perspective.

Oh! And there are lots of 4WD opportunities on the property, too, & heaps of room to camp independently if you're a four-wheel-driver. We only took eight caravans, camper-trailers & motorhomes on this particular 'tag-along tour' so got to hang out at the main camp near the homestead. This meant we could use the old shearing shed & the communal campfire for our get-togethers as well as the much appreciated toilets & hot showers - nothing like being spoiled when you're roughing it!

Hosts Calum & Belinda Caruth were very welcoming & we look forward to visiting them & their lovely property with another gypsy group soon!
