Award-winning touring and training experts Global Gypsies have been training Tour Guides for over a decade. But be warned! Our Tour Guide Training Course isn't your run-of-the-mill, boring sit in a dull classroom session!
On this hands-on, fun, weekend course you'll work your butt off! You'll camp out, help out, learn the ropes by watching the experts, assist with planning, preparing and cooking the group's meals, interact, role play, ask questions, lead a tour, chat with the professionals and spend quality time with other aspiring or working guides.

Designed for aspiring guides or guides already working in urban, regional or remote areas who are either permanent, casual or volunteers, this basic introduction to Tour Guiding is the only program of its kind. It's so special that it won a Bronze Medal at the Tourism Council industry awards. The course is facilitated by Jeremy Perks (former Tour Guide of the Year) and Jan Barrie, the founders of Global Gypsies, and Cherie Toovey, who is President of Tour Guides WA and also a former Tour Guide of the Year.
Participants receive a comprehensive workbook and, on successful completion of the course, a Certificate of Attendance and a bronze lapel pin.
Global Gypsies has been committed to tour guide training since the company’s inception in 1997. Our goal is to have as many WA Tour Guides trained as possible to improve the quality of tour guiding in our State and deliver a better - and safer - visitor experience. We also want to give the profession the status, respect and esteem it deserves and enjoys in many other parts of the world.
Excellent accredited courses of a longer duration are available at a number of learning institutions throughout Australia. However, we believe that an inexpensive, short, 'get-your-hands-dirty' course is the key to attracting a broader audience to the profession and to achieving effective and wide scale tour guide training in the longer term. It may also encourage participants to further their education at university or TAFE level.
For several years we ran at least two tour guide training courses annually, but then the demand fell away as potential and working guides deserted the industry and swarmed to the mines for the tempting salaries. Consequently, we temporarily suspended our courses. Now that the resources picture has changed, many talented people are looking for other career opportunities and we are receiving a number of inquiries from highly skilled men and women keen to learn how to become Tour Guides.
Tourism is an exciting industry to work in and, here in WA, it has a bright future. This is due to the State's incredible natural attractions, increased government focus on the industry with the downturn of the resources sector, the recent start-up of many new tour operators and activities, the safety of travel in WA, the growing Chinese inbound market and the attractive exchange rate of our dollar to overseas visitors. For these reasons we have decided to reinstate our unique Tour Guide Training Course.

Dates for the next Tour Guide Training Course are December 1-3, 2017.
The price of the weekend Tour Guide Training Course is $599 per person including three professional lecturers delivering theoretical and practical tuition over 2½ days (Friday night to Sunday afternoon), overnight camping fees, meals, non-alcoholic beverages, workbook, GST, plus attendance certificate and uniquely numbered bronze lapel pin on successful completion of the course.
