Tag Along Tour Information

'Tag Along' with the Gypsies

On our tag-along-tours you drive your own, or a hired, 4WD and join a small group of vehicles traveling in convoy behind an escort vehicle. The convoy communicates by two-way radio with your experienced Tour Guide providing commentary. No previous 4WD experience is necessary - you receive 4WD tuition as we go.

We usually cover about 300 kms a day (190 miles) on a combination of approved bitumen, sand, and dirt tracks. Each vehicle is provided with a UHF(CB) radio; we also carry an EPIRB (electronic positioning indicating radio beacon), a Royal Flying Doctor Service Radio and a satellite phone. Unless otherwise specified, all safaris begin and end in Perth.

Catering

Most tag-along-tours are self-catering, or 'participatory' catering. For reasons of convenience, value, quality of food and group dynamics (dinner is a real social event!), we strongly recommend the participatory catering option.

For a small additional cost of just $40 person per day ($20 a day for children under 16) we'll do all the menu planning and the grocery shopping and supply three delicious and nutritious meals a day plus morning and afternoon tea along with quality crockery, cutlery and catering equipment - we just ask that you help with the food preparation and washing up.

Because we tow a custom-designed 4WD catering trailer - a special kitchen on wheels - meals can be prepared quickly, professionally and hygienically. We also cater for special tastes and dietary requirements.

Accommodation

Accommodation on tag-along-tours is under the stars in tents in a combination of camp grounds, caravan parks and bush camps. Supply your own camping equipment, or we can hire it for you. Hot showers and all facilities are available most nights. Traditional accommodation in cabins and chalets can be arranged on request where available.

All clients are required to attend a compulsory Pre-Departure Workshop where we discuss safety issues, departure details and basic 4WD skills, and inspect private vehicles. The workshop is usually held the day prior to departure for overseas/interstate visitors, and a week before departure for local residents.

Environmentally Responsible

We are licensed to operate by the Department of Environment & Conservation. To view our Enviromental policy click here.
