What's a 'Tag-Along-Tour'?

You'll be independent, but not alone!

On a Global Gypsies' tag-along-tour you'll be part of a small group of private and/or hired vehicles travelling in convoy behind an escort vehicle, led by an expert guide - independent, but not alone.

The routes we have selected to such outstanding remote destinations as Ayers Rock (Uluru), the Kimberley, Rudall River National Park, the Canning Stock Route, the Holland Track, the Great Australian Bight and many more - combine challenge and adventure with the incomparable rugged beauty of Australia's natural attractions.

We usually cover about 300 kms a day on a combination of approved bitumen, sand, and dirt tracks. Each vehicle needs to have a UHF(CB) radio; we also carry an EPIRB (electronic positioning indicating radio beacon), a Royal Flying Doctor Service Radio and a satellite phone.

If you don't have your own 4WD vehicle or two-way radio we can hire one for you at special rates, and you don't need previous off-road experience to participate - 4WD tuition is part of the package!

Catering

On most tag-along-tours we employ a Safari Hostess, tow our catering trailer & provide quality catering.

For a nominal, and very reasonable, cost of just $45 per person per day, we'll do all the menu planning and the grocery shopping and supply three delicious and nutritious meals a day plus morning tea along with quality crockery, cutlery and catering equipment - we just ask that you help with the food preparation and washing up. Gathering together at the end of the day over a delicious sit-down dinner really builds group dynamics and camaraderie, and it also allows you to relax and enjoy your holiday!

With our custom-designed 4WD catering trailer - a special kitchen on wheels - meals can be prepared quickly, professionally and hygienically. We also cater for special preferences and dietary requirements.

If you self-cater (a necessity on the Canning Stock Route), you do your own thing - plan and prepare your own meals, buy and store your groceries, carry your own catering equipment and clean your own dishes.

Accommodation

Accommodation on tag-along-tours is under the stars in tents in a combination of camp grounds, caravan parks and bush camps and is included in the price. Supply your own camping equipment, or we can hire it for you. Hot showers and toilet facilities are available most nights exept when we are 'bush camping' in extremely remote areas. Traditional (optional) accommodation in cabins and chalets can be arranged on request at client's own cost where available.

Pre-Departure Workshop

To prepare for most safaris, clients are required to attend a compulsory Pre-Departure Workshop where we discuss safety issues, the itinerary, give you a Pre-Departure Kit and inspect private vehicles. Clients who are unable to attend will receive their Pre-Departure Kit in the post and we will phone you to go through it.

Environmentally Responsible

Global Gypsies has a strict environmental management policy. We use only approved 4WD tracks on our safaris, and our tours and tuition have a strong environmental focus.
We are licensed to operate by the Department of Environment & Conservation and the Department of Transport and have national accreditation from Tourism Council Australia.
