Dust to Dust

DUST TO DUST.. DUST TO DUST..

People who love the outback and the desert can now choose a beautiful and peaceful remote area as their final resting place thanks to our unique new service.

"Dust to Dust" enables nature-lovers to have their ashes scattered in the Australian outback or in a remote desert area at a special, highly personalised private ceremony.

Global Gypsies has been running tours into the Australian outback for over a decade. During that time, we have performed several ash-scattering services in tranquil and picturesque locations for friends & clients, and are receiving more and more requests for this unusual service.

One of Australia's most respected outback guides, Global Gypsies' Director and former Tour Guide of the Year, Jeremy Perks, will conduct the ceremony. He will ensure the service is undertaken with dignity, respect and sensitivity for any individual requests. The ceremony can be extremely simple, or it can include special music or wording and be photographed or videod for relatives if desired.

"Dust to Dust" is a dignified, caring way to provide peace of mind to people who genuinely love nature and the Australian bush. We believe the service will have particular appeal to people who have fond memories of time spent in the desert, or to those who always wanted to explore the outback but never had the opportunity to do so. It is a beautiful way to travel forever in the peaceful tranquility of this ancient, timeless land.

DUST TO DUST.. DUST TO DUST..

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I arrange for a "Dust to Dust" service?
The service can be requested in a will and can be arranged with us in advance. Or the service can be requested by executors or surviving relatives who have the option of leaving all the arrangements to us, or of joining a scheduled or private safari so they can participate in the ceremony themselves.

Is there a choice of location?
Global Gypsies will recommend appropriate scenic and picturesque outback or desert locations and will arrange for any necessary permits. There are certain places where we are not allowed to scatter ashes and we would be happy to discuss the available options with you.

Is the service available year-round?
We visit different areas of the outback several times a year and would arrange your service to coincide with our schedule and to meet your particular geographic request.

Who conducts the service?
Jeremy One of Australia's most respected outback guides, Global Gypsies' Director and former Tour Guide of the Year, Jeremy Perks, will conduct the ceremony. Jeremy is a caring person with great inner strength and integrity. He will ensure the service is highly personalised, tailored to your specific requirements, and is undertaken with dignity, respect and sensitivity.

Says Jeremy, "So many people have an affinity and a deep connection with the desert and the outback and would like to make it their final resting place. However, until now it has been extremely difficult to arrange for someone to scatter your ashes there. I visit some of the most beautiful and remote places in Australia several times a year and would feel privileged to fulfill this last wish for people who love the outback and the desert as much as I do."

Who writes the service?
We can write the service for you (one of our Directors is an experienced journalist), or you can write your own special service. You may also wish to provide music which we can play during the ceremony.

Can I have a marker or gravestone?
Our company philosophy is to tread lightly on the land so unfortunately we are not able to mark any specific areas. However, we can also advise you of the grid reference by using our geographical positioning system (GPS). We would also be happy to make a film or photographic record of your special ceremony on request.

What about transport?
We have made special arrangements with a reputable courier company to transport ashes to us from anywhere in Australia by air express and with special care. We would be happy to discuss these arrangements with you in more detail.

What happens to the urn once the ashes have been scattered?
Because we tread lightly on the land, we cannot bury urns in the outback. We can return the empty urn to you if you wish, or make any other arrangements you desire.

How much does the service cost?
Prices range from $500 - $1000 depending on the type of ceremony you require. Please ask us for a personalised quotation.
